SHELIA McCOY HAMILTON

Shelia McCoy Hamilton was born in the small Appalachian town of Matewan, west Virginia. As she attended grammar school in Freeburn, Kentucky, another small town about 30 miles away, her drawing and painting ability was unveiled at the tender age of nine.

Although beautiful, the economically disadvantaged West Virginia and Kentucky areas provided no avenues for a fine Arts Education. However Hamilton, as a self taught-artist, has mastered her gift. Her works reflect her talent and skill as her paintings--endowed with color, rich patterns, of gold and shaded hues--reflect the mingle of authentic artistry in a unique expression. Her work can be said indeed to be, “the real McCoy”. Each canvas, heavily textured, is alive with extravagant color. Hamilton’s medium is oil and as an impressionist, she expresses through figural interpretation filled with emotion. Hamilton says that what she wants her work to illustrate and express most of all is “Love...because it is life’s greatest gift.”

Now living in Beaufort, South Carolina, a beautiful seacoast town between Savannah and Charleston she finds more inspiration. Surrounded by natural beauty so inherent to the region, Hamilton’s passion to paint life’s greatest gift has been stirred as never before.

Hamilton is also a portrait artist and admires the work of Dorothy Hickock, a local artist who’s work has earned the respect of local and regional art buyers, and critics. Hamilton also admires and is influenced by, the works of consummate artists: Mary Cassatt, Edward Potthast, and Museo Sorolla.

“ I encourages my collectors to work through the gallery to produce commissioned pieces

representing family, children, grandchildren and loving couples enjoying the coast. Please ask your gallery representative about arranging a special piece to capture your family memories for generations.”

Because non-specific faces are her trademark, no sitting, or photo session is ordinarily required, and placing people of general gender and ages in her signature surroundings is no problem. Similarly commissioning a piece you see to the size you need is also encouraged.

Currently Hamilton’s work is exhibited in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
